A Southern California native, Mike Shenkman boasts a distinguished career spanning over two decades in the real estate industry. His extensive experience includes roles in training, development, and management within some of Southern California's leading real estate firms. Beyond his expertise in sales and management, Mike's background encompasses affordable housing, community development, property management, redevelopment, and mortgage finance. He frequently provides consultancy services for land use planning and has served as an expert witness in real estate-related legal disputes.
Mike earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Urban Studies & Planning from UC San Diego, graduating Cum Laude with High Distinction Honors. He furthered his education at USC, where he completed a Master’s in Planning (MPL), a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA), and a Graduate Certificate in Political Management. In 2021, he returned to UC San Diego as a professor in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning, specializing in Real Estate Development. Actively involved in the San Diego real estate community, Mike frequently instructs agents at various career stages. He volunteers with the Pacific Southwest Association of REALTORS (PSAR) and the Greater San Diego Association of REALTORS (SDAR), where he has served on the SDAR Board of Directors, chaired the REALTOR Political Action Committee (RPAC), and held roles as Vice-Chair of Government Affairs and committee member for Education, Grievance, and the Young Professionals Network (YPN). In 2022, he was honored with the SDAR REALTOR of the Year award.
Mike is also a member of the California Association of Realtors (CAR), the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) and the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). He cohosted the “First Home California” podcast for the California Department of Real Estate (DRE) in 2023, serves as a transportation policy liaison for the California chapter of the American Planning Association (CAAPA), and has contributed to real estate legislative policy for both the city & county of San Diego and the state of California. His professional designations include Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR), Short Sale & Foreclosure Resource (SFR), Property Management Certification (PMC), Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS), and Military Relocation Professional (MRP).
